About
Early learners of Thai sometimes develop the impression that Thai language lacks the grammatical structure of English. In fact, Thai has a fully formed grammar. But because English and Thai grammar are so significantly different, English-speaking learners of Thai are often baffled by the lack of verb conjugation and pluralization, among other things, in the Thai language. The misunderstanding is compounded by hearing broken English spoken by many Thais since they are often equally baffled by the use of conjugated verbs and certain pronouns in the English language.
In this blog we add regular postings, usually several times a week, about some element of Thai grammar. Each posting is meant to be a bite-size language lesson that can be readily assimilated by English-speaking Thai learners. We draw upon a number of published references for the postings as well as our own experiences living and working with Thai people in Thailand.
To view the postings in their entirety, including the words written in Thai script, you will need Thai language support in your browser. However, even without Thai language support you can get most of the content of each post from the romanized versions of the Thai words. For information on Romanization and a pronunciation guide see the tabs for those subjects.
